Charles Hackley was born and raised in Provo, Utah. He is a fourth generation member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from Utah State University in Land Management. His career has taken him to many locations in the western United States where he has been a consultant to governments, corporations and private land holders. On his 2 1/2 year mission for the LDS Church, he lived in Navajo, Hopi and Apache communities and learned details and secrets about their cultures. In his many travels in the southwest he has observed thousands of petroglyphs and visited hundreds of ancient sites. His travels to Mexico have honed his interest and knowledge about Montezuma's impressive treasure. He is noted for finding hidden graves and caves. He and his wife, Joan, lived on a ranch in Montana for almost 20 years where they raised their six children, mules and longhorn cattle. Charles has been associated with the Boy Scouts of America in many positions for over 53 years. All five of his sons are Eagle Scouts. Mr. Hackley currently resides in Death Valley, California where he is working on his next book about Aztec Treasure.
